  18. President's official residence shows its age, so new tenant
  19. Marilyn Quayle wants $578,000 to fix it up. That's double last
  20. year's amount and $200,000 more than the White House requested
  21. for the former Admiral's House. The additional money, if
  22. granted, will go to carve out bedrooms on the top floor for the
  23. three Quayle kids and an office for their mom; the remaining
  24. $378,000 is for maintenance. Congressional staffer Aubrey
  25. ("Tex") Gunnels, who endorses the increase, looked the place
  26. over and gloomily concluded, "The whole thing is about to fall
  27. down."
